Stay Focused While Driving

Being safe behind the wheel.

Most people know it’s dangerous to text and drive, but when that phone alert goes off, sometimes the temptation can be overwhelming. The time it takes them to glance down at their phone or type a reply – approximately 4.6 seconds – can be like driving the length of a football field, blindfolded.

Apps are available to remove the temptation in the first place. Verizon Wireless recently made Safely Go available to its customers in the Verizon tab of Google Play. This app, designed to limit the distractions that commonly occur when drivers use their phone in their car, responds to text messages with an auto-reply so they can concentrate on the road.

Bear in mind, however, that the app’s effectiveness relies on drivers recognizing the danger of their actions and using the tool to keep themselves and others safer.

Verizon Wireless supports state and federal laws banning texting while driving. Currently 39 states and the District of Columbia ban texting while driving.

Please do your part by keeping your hands on the wheel and off of the phone.
