According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, California residents gave $1 of every $8 donated to nonprofit organizations in 2012. In addition, people in California were the biggest contributors to HopeLine from Verizon. New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida rounded out the top five contributing states to HopeLine last year. In total, the public donated more than 1 million used wireless phones to HopeLine.

2012 was the sixth consecutive year that HopeLine collected more than 1 million no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories.

HopeLine takes no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories and turns them into support for domestic violence victims and survivors in the form of cash grants and wireless phones with voice minutes and text-messaging service.
